Author: Tyler Key - Wokeism and anti-wokeism both struggle at facing the brutal, unfiltered truth.
- The anti-woke crowd won't acknowledge they are intrinsically connected with all life on earth.
- The woke crowd gets caught up in "ascension" after they struggle to face up when they ground in reality.
We pick and choose and undermine our own beliefs on a daily basis, and I am no different. Can you be consciously woke?
Woke - verb - to be awake.
Perceiving, looking, feeling, and sensing.
It means you see and feel everything within your capacity—the good, the bad, and the terrifying—and discern it compared to some values or ethics.
We can only do that in community as we always have blind spots, and by a daily commitment to challenging our own thinking.
Woke sounds pretty good.
What you scared of?
The clarity?
The kind of clarity that can be paralysing, but it's also the first step towards real change.
What change you make and where you'll end up depends on what values and ethics you are using. The recent tech-bro dreams did the same thing and got Trump across the line.
Tech bros got woke and realised that to survive in their ethics you need to double down on extraction of others. Prey on fear, prey on division.
They just valued productivity over mutual benefit.
They didn't value caring about all life.
They valued caring about a particular sub-set of humans.
They'll make sure everyone has to work themselves into the ground to pay someone else's mortgage until you can get someone to pay your mortgage while you pay the corporate food super-organism for overpriced acai from Brazil because you don't know how to grow food in your backyard, and you invested in fossil fuel companies and now you can't grow food in your backyard because it's too god damn hot and the plants wont set their roots in dead soil.
Most people haven't experienced what it’s like to be truly cared for and supported by someone other than close family and have been burnt by someone who was only looking after themselves.
No wonder we don't believe we can rely on community to support our lives. But being truly known, loved, celebrated, cared for, and supported by someone feels amazing.
Imagine that 150 times over.
Imagine being part of a community where 150 people know you, value you, and celebrate your successes.
Doesn't that sound like a better way to live?
Or is it your worst nightmare because being vulnerable with that many people scares the living sh!t out of you since the last time you were vulnerable, you got hurt?
Life's getting hard being an individual, so might as well do the hard work of rethinking everything we've been taught, embracing cooperation, and building a future where we care for Country and Community first—not just ourselves.
Which hard are you going to choose? The one where we create more life or kill it?
